The Power Genius XL (PGXL) amplifier can be interfaced with an Icom exciter using the CI-V interface.
The recommended CI-V interface configuration is to use a CI-V hub and level converter, such as the CT-17 which will provide the greatest flexibility in managing your CI-V attached devices. The PGXL utilizes a 1/8" (3.5mm) TS to 1/8" (3.5mm) TS cable to connect it to the CT-17. A TRS cable can also be used.
It is also possible to use the same 1/8" (3.5mm) TS to 1/8" (3.5mm) TS cable to connect the PGXL directly to the Icom exciter, but this may prevent interfacing the Icom exciter with other CAT enabled applications.
The PGXL is an SO2R amplifier. It is designed to connect two independent exciters to it, one to the "A" side and another exciter connected to the "B" side. You cannot connect a single exciter to both the A and B sides simultaneously.
Once your Icom exciter is properly connected to the PGXL, use the Power Genius XL Utility to configure the CI-V address, the port settings in the CAT / CI-V tab. You must configure both the Icom exciter and the PGXL to have the same port settings. We recommend using 19200 baud and 8N1 for the eight (8) data bits, no parity (N), and one (1) stop bit. However, you can use any settings you desire as long as the port configuration is the same on the PGXL and the Icom exciter.
After making the changes in the Power Genius XL Utility, click on the SAVE button to store the configuration. This will reboot the amp and once that is done you can start using the PGXL and your Icom exciter for tracking band changes.
To key the amplifier, a PTT cable will be required from the exciter to the correct side of the amplifier's (A or B) KEY IN port.
