How to Manually Reinstall a PowerSDR FlexControl

Content provided by: Tim, W4TME

It may become necessary to manually reinstall the FlexControl driver after an operating system upgrade.  The procedure below describes how to perform this action.

  1. Shut Down PowerSDR.
  2. Power off your FLEX Series SDR. Power off your radio to prevent any conflict when removing programs that may still be connected to it.
  3. Unplug the FlexControl from your PC
  4. Remove the FlexControl driver by running the FlexControlUninstall file as Administrator. Navigate to the folder [the drive Letter you installed SSDR, usually C:]\Program Files (x86)\FlexRadio Systems\PowerSDR [v2.B.C, select the latest version]\FlexControl[32 or 64, select the proper one for your PC depending on if it is a 32 or 64-bit version of Windows]. You will see a file called FlexControlUninstall. Right click on it and Run as Administrator. A command window will popup momentarily and close when the driver is uninstalled.
  5. Remove all FlexRadio FlexControl specific hidden virtual comports from your PC. Using the procedure, Removing Hidden or "Ghosted" Com Ports (https://helpdesk.flexradio.com/hc/en-us/articles/200883925-Removing-Hidden-or-Ghosted-Com-ports), remove all com ports with the names “FlexRadio Virtual Serial Port” or “FlexRadio FlexControl”
  6. Reboot your computer
  7. Install the FlexControl driver by running the FlexControlInstall file as Administrator. You will see a file called FlexControlInstall. Right click on it and Run as Administrator. A command window will popup momentarily and close when the driver is uninstalled.
  8. Plug the FlexControl into a USB port.  Plug the FlexControl into a USB port and allow the driver to install.  This usually takes less than several seconds.
  9. Verify that the FlexControl has properly installed.  By following  the part of the instructions in Step 4 where you verify com ports in Device Manager, make sure that the FlexControl com port is not the same as any other listed com port. If it is, then using the procedure, How to Change the Com Port Assignment for a FlexControl (https://helpdesk.flexradio.com/hc/en-us/articles/202479329-How-to-Change-the-Com-Port-Assignment-for-a-FlexControl) change the port number to a high value that is not conflicting with any other established com ports.  Note: Do not delete any com ports in this step.
  10. Restart PowerSDR.  The FlexControl should be working properly.

This procedure did not work to resolve the problem I'm having with SmartSDR 1.6.17 and the FlexControl. No suggested cures have worked to solve this problem.
