The latest versions of firmware for PGXL and TGXL allow for easy remote access of these devices from SmartSDR for Windows (with the PGXL/TGXL Windows Utility), and with SmartSDR for Mac.
Here is how to configure these devices for remotely accessing PGXL/TGXL
The instructions below are for SSDR-Win, but they are similar in the SSDR-Mac program.
In order to remotely access your PGXL or TGXL, you need to set up several things to allow the PGXL or TGXL windows utility (Or equivalent "tool" in SSDR-Mac) to find it on the network:
1) You will need to forward TCP port 9008 to the PGXL's Local IP Address.
(This is done by editing your router's port forwarding table.)
You will need to forward TCP port 9010 if you are configuring a TGXL to the TGXL's Local IP Address.
(This is done by editing your router's port forwarding table.)
Your PGXL or TGXL IP Addresses are in the "Network" tab of the PGXL and TGXL Configuration (#1 in the Picture) at the radio site. (This picture is from a Power Genius Configuration)
2) Next, you need to enter an "Authorization code" into your TGXL or PGXL Setup "Network" screen. (#2 in the picture above) (Make up a code that you will remember and enter it in the box. You can use the same code for the PGXL, TGXL, and Antenna Genius)
This is the code that you will also need to enter from your remote operating site in order to remotely access your Genius equipment.
3) Then: On your remote computer (at the operating site, not the radio site), in the Network tab:
You will need to open the TGXL or PGXL Windows Utility and select the "Remote Devices" tab.
To set up a new connection for the remote TGXL or PGXL, select the "+" to add a remote connection to the TGXL or PGXL. (The Picture Below is from a Tuner Genius Utility)
It will open this configuration window: (This picture shows the setup for a Tuner Genius)
4) Fill out the information in the configuration boxes:
- Enter the "Device Name" (Your preferred Nickname for the device)
- Enter the "Public IP Address" of your radio site's router,
[The "Public" IP address you need to use is the Public Address at the radio site.
You can get that from your router at the radio site.
or
Run What Is My IP? Shows Your Public IP Address - IPv4 - IPv6 at the radio site.
or
You can get it from the "Radio Information" at your home via SmartLink. -- Hover your mouse over the radio icon in the SSDR-Win "Radio Chooser" screen. The IP Address of the remote station will show in the list.]
(NOTE: You can also use a DDNS address instead of the actual Public IP Address, if you have a DDNS address configured. This is handy if your public network IP address changes from time to time.) - Enter the TCP "Port Number" for your Genius Device. (See the table below)
- Enter the "Authorization code" for the Tuner Genius or Power Genius that you entered in step 1, Box 2, above.
- Hit "SAVE."
5) NOTE: Use these TCP Port numbers for the different Genius Products to remotely access PGXL, TGXL, Antenna Genius, or Rotor Genius products:
TGXL TCP Port = 9010
PGXL TCP Port = 9008
Antenna Genius TCP Port = 9007
Rotor Genius TCP Port = 9009
=======================================
If you are using SSDR for Mac at the operating end:
1) The "Public" IP address you need to use is the Public Address at the radio site.
You can get that from your router at the radio site.
or
Run What Is My IP? Shows Your Public IP Address - IPv4 - IPv6 at the radio site.
or
You can get it from the Radio Information at your home via SmartLink:
Open the "SmartSDR > Preferences > Communication > Available Radios" tab.
Then click on the "INFO" button.
The Radio IP is near the top of the listed information.
2) You can find the PGXL/TGXL remote setup screen in "Tools > Genius Devices"
Select the "+" to add a remote connection for a new device.
Then edit the settings for the PGXL.
- Enter your preferred "Device Name" or nickname for the device.
- Select "Type" and select the device (Power Genius, Tuner Genius, Antenna Genius, or Rotor Genius)
- Enter the "Public IP Address" for the remote station (see above for how to obtain the Public IP Address)
- Enter the "Port number" for your device.
- Enter the "Remote Access Code" that you set up at the radio site. (see above)
- Hit "OK"
If you also have a TGXL, then use the "+" to add another configuration and set up your TGXL.
This should get you going with remote access to your Genius product.
