To manually install the FlexRadio DAX drivers on a PC, you must run both the .inf file and the .bat
For Windows 11 users
Some users with Windows 11 have needed to take an additional step due to security features like "Core Isolation" before reinstalling the DAX drivers.
- Disable Memory Integrity in Windows settings under Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security > Device security > Core isolation. Restart your computer before running the driver installation process
To manually reinstall all four FlexRadio DAX drivers—DAX IQ, DAX RX Audio, DAX TX Audio, and DAX Mic Audio—you must first uninstall any existing DAX drivers, reboot, and then run the corresponding
.inf and .bat files for each driver as an administrator. This process assumes you have already installed SmartSDR for Windows. The DAX driver files are located in the SmartSDR installation directory.
Before you begin
- Close all FlexRadio applications. This includes SmartSDR and the DAX Control Panel.
- Close any other third-party software that uses DAX, such as digital mode applications.
- Find your SmartSDR installation folder. It is typically located at
C:\Program Files\FlexRadio Systems\SmartSDR \[latest version]\64-bit Drivers. The folder may differ for 32-bit systems.
Step 1: Uninstall previous DAX drivers
- Navigate to the
64-bit Driversfolder within your SmartSDR installation directory. - Inside this folder, you will find subfolders for each DAX driver.
- Go into each subfolder (
IQ_DAX,MICAudio_DAX,RXAudio_DAX, andTXAudio_DAX) and run the respective uninstall batch file (e.g.,SmartSDR_IQ_DAX_uninstall.bat) by right-clicking and selecting Run as administrator. - After uninstalling all drivers, reboot your PC.
Step 2: Install the DAX drivers
After restarting, return to the
64-bit Drivers folder. For each of the four driver subfolders (IQ_DAX, MICAudio_DAX, RXAudio_DAX, and TXAudio_DAX), perform the following actions: - Right-click the
.inffile (e.g.,SmartSDR_IQ_DAX.inf) and select Install. - Then right-click the corresponding install batch file (e.g.,
SmartSDR_IQ_DAX_install.bat) and select the Run as administrator option. - Once you have done this for all four drivers, reboot your PC.
Step 3: Verify the installation
After the final reboot, start SmartSDR and connect to your radio.
- Open the DAX Control Panel to confirm that all four DAX streams are available.
- You can also check Windows Device Manager under "Sound, video and game controllers" and "Audio inputs and outputs" for the DAX devices.
