The following instructions describe how to install (aka "burn ") a bootable image file to a USB drive (aka "thumb drive")
This procedure is needed when performing a USB Recovery process on a FLEX-8000. The FlexRadio Technical Support team will provide a link to download the image file with a .img file extension. Save this file to your PC. It will need this to create the bootable recovery image.
Step-by-Step Guide to Using Rufus
Download Rufus:
- Visit the Rufus download page and download the latest version of the software.
- Rufus is a portable application, so no installation is required. Simply run the downloaded executable file.
Prepare Your USB Drive:

- Ensure the drive contains no important data as it will be formatted erasing any existing data.

- Rufus will automatically detect your USB drive if it is the only USB drive connected to your computer. Select the correct USB drive in the Device dropdown box if multiple USB drives are connected to your PC.
Select the Image File:
- In the Boot Selection dropdown box, the Disk or ISO image option should be selected.
- Click on the Select button and select the image file provided by FlexRadio Technical Support.
Install the Image to the USB Drive
- Click on the START button located at the bottom of the Rufus window.
- Wait until the image transfer has been completed.
- Click on the Close button to shut down Rufus
Remove the USB Drive from the PC
Eject the USB drive from Windows before physically removing it from the PC
- Navigate to the bottom right corner of the bottom toolbar.
- If the USB icon is hidden, click the Up arrow.
- Locate the USB icon and find your external hard drive.
- Click Eject, and wait for a message stating it’s safe to disconnect. A bell noise should also play.
