Overview
Noise Floor Range works with Relative Noise Floor Scaling, which locks the Panadapter vertically so the noise floor stays at your chosen reference point as you change bands and frequencies.
At high zoom levels, small variations in the measured noise floor can cause the Panadapter to reposition repeatedly, producing a visible oscillation of the display. Noise Floor Range sets how far the measured noise floor is allowed to move, in dB, before the Panadapter repositions. Increasing the range reduces repositioning.
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Range | 0 to 10 dB |
| Step size | 0.5 dB |
| Default | 1.5 dB |
| Scope | One setting for all of your Panadapters. Changing it in one place changes it everywhere. |
Noise Floor Range enhances Relative Noise Floor Scaling from v4.0.1. Any radio that received that feature also receives Noise Floor Range, including radios whose SmartSDR+ license has since expired.
Setting Noise Floor Range in SmartSDR for Windows
- Open the Display menu on the left-hand side of SmartSDR.
- Set the Floor slider to the noise floor position you want, then click the button beside it to turn Relative Noise Floor Scaling on.
- Adjust Range, on the row below Floor.
Setting Noise Floor Range in Maestro and M-Models
- Open the Display menu.
- Set the Floor slider to the noise floor position you want, then touch the button beside it to turn Relative Noise Floor Scaling on.
- Adjust Range, on the row below Floor.
Tips
- If the Panadapter “bounces” up and down at high zoom, increase Range in 0.5 dB steps until the display settles.
- A smaller Range keeps the noise floor pinned more tightly to your reference point, at the cost of more frequent repositioning.
