There may be an occasion to factory reset your radio to address an issue you might be having. The procedure below documents how to comprehensively reset your radio.
Note: This step must be done using SmartSDR for Windows.
NOTE: If you are using SmartSDR for MacOS, please refer to the SmartSDR for Mac Online Manual for equivalent instructions.
Exporting Profiles
If you have not previously Exported your Profiles to your computer, you will delete any saved profiles and only the DEFAULT Profiles will remain on your radio.
Please use this procedure to Export your Profiles: Exporting and Importing your SmartSDR Profiles
M Model Radio Front Panel Reset
If you are resetting an "M" model radio perform a reset of the front display.
- When the radio is up and running, press and hold the LOCK A and F1 buttons until the display screen shows the blue shut down "shade" (approximately 5 seconds or less).
- Release the LOCK A and F1 buttons
- The screen will say "Slide to Shut Down your PC". Using your finger, press on the display at the downward-pointing triangle and slide your finger down until the display turns solid blue and says "Shutting Down" with a spinning circle of dots, then release your finger from the screen.
- Wait for the screen to become blank.
The power button on the radio should still be solid green.
Then continue with the Factory Reset of the Radio:
This procedure performs a complete cold boot and factory reset of your radio. Follow the steps in order and observe every wait time, which ensures the radio's processors reset properly.
Before You Begin
- Power off accessories. If you have a PGXL, TGXL, or Antenna Genius, make sure each one is powered off.
- Close all connected software. Shut down any program that interfaces with the radio, such as loggers, digital mode programs, and NodeRed devices.
- Disconnect the REM ON cable. If a cable is connected to the REM ON connector on the back of the radio, remove it before starting. You can reconnect it after the reset is complete.
Part 1: Power Cycle the Radio
1. Power off the radio. Press and release the Power button, then wait for the power LED to turn off. If a FLEX-6000
GPSDO is installed, wait for the LED to turn amber instead.
2. If the radio does not shut down, press and hold the Power button until it does.
- If that doesn't work, turn off the DC power supply.
- Wait 2 minutes. This gives all processors time to shut down properly.
3. Disconnect power for at least 30 seconds.
- All radios except Aurora: Unplug the DC power cable from the radio. Do not simply turn off the power supply. Unplugging the cable is required for a complete reboot of the radio's processors.
- For Aurora Radios: Turn off the AC power rocker switch on the back of the radio.
4. Restore power.
- All radios except Aurora: Reconnect the DC power cable and turn on your power supply.
- Aurora Radios: Turn the AC power switch back on.
5. Wait 2 minutes. This allows the internal PSoC processor to boot completely. Do not continue until the time has
passed.
Part 2: Perform the Reset
Follow the steps for your radio model.
For FLEX-6700 and FLEX-6500:
1. Press and hold the OK button, and while holding it, press and release the Power button.
2. Release the OK button when the power LED turns white.
3. Allow the radio to continue booting normally. The reset is complete when the power LED is solid green.
For Aurora, FLEX-6300, FLEX-6x00(M), and FLEX-8x00(M)
1. Press and hold the Power button for about 5 seconds, until the power LED turns white.
2. Release the button and allow the radio to continue booting. The LED flashes green while booting.
3. The reset is complete when the power LED is solid green.
NOTE: Do not hold the power button past the point where it turns WHITE, or you may put the radio into USB RECOVERY Mode and it will not properly reset.
Note: The radio may take a few minutes to start booting. Please be patient and let it finish.
After the Reset
- Do not load any previously exported (saved) profiles yet.
- First, test whether the problem you were experiencing still occurs.
- Inconsistent or corrupted profiles can cause the problem, and loading them right away could reintroduce the issue.
NOTE: When importing or Exporting Profiles: ALWAYS “UN-Check” the “Preferences” box in the import/export dialogue tab. This helps prevent loading corrupt radio database information back into the radio after the Factory Reset.
If the issue returns after importing profiles, REPEAT the Factory Reset, and DO NOT Import ANY Profiles. Start fresh with CLEAN Profiles.
